THE DAY!!!

Today was the DAY! The big, life altering, future changing, mind boggling DAY!! The kind of DAY that goes down in the memory book of your life, and here is how it went down:
5:45 am- alarm goes off, super tired, only slept 6 hours eyes pop open. Reality sets in, it's here, finally here. The DAY we have been working like crazed squirrels preparing for the ice age to prepare for has arrived. I hop out of bed and wake Kent up expecting him to jump up with enthusiasm because surely the rushing is not over. He rolls over, grunts, picks up his phone and proceeds to complete his normal routine of catching up on his Modern War game. I'm not phased by his nonchalant attitude and I continue to scramble about the house looking for the perfect work pants and preparing for the day.
6:00 am- dogs have been let out and fed, scrambling continues, not much is being accomplished. There isn't much to do, hence the 11:45 bedtime the night before.
6:05 am- hop in the tub while Kent continues to roll around in the bed, obviously he's forgotten just what this DAY is.
6:15- Kent stumbles out of bed to put on some work clothes as I chatter at him to hurry we have things to do before we leave!! I am still unsure of what they may be, but an uneventful morning just doesn't seem to fit the events that will take place in now less than 12 hours.
6:30- we climb in the car so I can take Kent to work. His truck's transmission so gracefully decided to go out on us just three days ago. Go figure.
7:00- Kent is dropped off at work and I am left alone to ponder. I decide to pass the three hour window between now and work by reading and going to the Dollar Tree. Nothing passes the time and numbs the mind like looking at $1 treasures. ;)
9:00- I decide to mosey on over to work. Here I do my job while my mind and heart reside on the activities of the day.
Fast forward to:
2:00- work is over and there are only four hours standing between us and our destiny. My heart rate is starting to pick up, my shoulders are tightening, my mood is tensing. So I decide to get an oil change.
3:30-Bad idea, 3 attempts later my oil is still old, I'm 15 minutes away from Kent's work, and I'm in a bad mood.
I ask Kent to get a ride to me and he does. We stop for dinner on the way home so we don't make a mess in the kitchen.
4:30- We are home, dinner is gone and there are now 1.5 hrs between us and our destiny.

So. We. Wait.

We check, recheck, and check the house again.

We make sure there is no dirt on the floor, no snakes in the toilets, no specks on the mirrors, no stuffed animals in the crib, no marks against us that we can see.

5:30- She calls, she will be here in 30 minutes.

Hands are shaking, heart is pounding, breath is scarce. I'm glued to the window like a three year old waiting for Santa.

Who are we waiting for? What is the DAY?

It's our case worker, she is coming to see if we are "good enough" to be foster parents. She wants to make sure we meet all of the little check marks on her paper, that our house is adequate for us to be responsible for a child.

Talk about an important moment and test in our lives.
I have failed many tests in the "Can we be parents?" department.
I have failed pregnancy tests, and ovulation tests, ultrasounds, and blood tests. Would I fail this test too? Would she see something that made her think twice about me as a mom?

Nope!!!! I passed, Kent passed, our house passed!!!!!

We are on our way to being parents, actual parents, with children to love.

We are ecstatic and terrified!!

We are confident that God brought us here and only by his grace and love will we go farther.

We couldn't have done this on our own, I am a bit eccentric, and calling people sometimes scares me. Inviting DHS to our house is a type of bravery that could have only come from him.

So there you have it, today was the DAY, the DAY that God led us too. The DAY we found out we are going to be parents.

In eight weeks our lives will change forever.
